My name is Emily. I am a junior majoring in Communication Design.
I am interested in both digital and analog forms of art and design. I am taking this class as part of my BFA in Communication Design and to continue learning about designing for screens.
I have some experience with HTML and CSS from taking Visual Principles for the Screen last fall. In that class, I made a few websites and experimented with Figma, but my coding experience is still pretty basic.
I hope to build on what I learned last year and develop stronger technical skills in coding so I can create more complex and functional websites.
Designing for a screen requires thinking more about how someone interacts with and navigates through the design. You also have to consider different screen sizes and aspect ratios, while a printed design has a more fixed format.
Nashallery's Booth is an example of effective design because it turns a familiar photo booth into something interactive on the web. I like that the design is simple but still feels playful and want to interact with it.
Wikipedia exemplifies effective communication because it ogranizes large amounts of inormation that is easy to scan and navigate. The heading, links, and consistent page structure make it easy to find specfic information.
Are.na communicates effectively because the different images and references are organized into collections that are easy to explore. I like how you can get a sense of someone's interest and ideas visually.
